Saïd, un enfant de huit ans, est chargé d'aller chercher le caftan de sa mère. Sur le chemin du retour, Saïd se fait voler le caftan. De peur d'être puni, il rejoint Rabat, de l'autre côté du fleuve, chez sa tante, pour lui demander de l'aider. A Rabat, Saïd découvre à travers ses mésaventures, la réalité de sa société.
