Biography

Mohamed Mernich was born in Mzouda in the Chichaoua region on January 1, 1951. In 1967, at the age of 16, he stopped his studies at the third year of high school in Marrakech. It is in this city where he opted for accounting studies in a private school in Marrakech  from which he graduated in 1976.
Abandoning accounting, Mohamed Mernich preferred the audiovisual field. First by making amateur video films that became more and more professional.  Honored in 2007 at the Festival "Sidi Kacem" where he received a distinction for his film "Tilila", he was awarded, in 2009, the prize for original music at the Tangier National Film Festival for his film "Tamazight Oufella".

Mohamed Mernich, pioneer of Amazigh cinema in Morocco, died on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at his home in Casablanca, at the age of 61.
