Hamid Benani is a Moroccan director, scriptwriter and writer, born on November 5, 1940 in Meknes. In 1964, he obtained a degree in philosophy at the Faculty of Arts of Rabat.
In 1965, he began studying film at the Institute of Advanced Film Studies (IDHEC) currently Femis, which he graduated in 1967, in "Realization, production and management."
In 1968, he joined the Moroccan Broadcasting Corporation where he served as Head of External Relations department. He resigned from the RTM and in 1970 founded the production company "Sigma 3" in collaboration with Ahmed Bouanani, Mohamed Abderahman Tazi and Mohamed Sekkat. It was the company that produced the same year its first feature film Wechma (Traces).
